The Erongo Wild perches amidst the rugged granite kopjes imminent to Namibia’s Erongo Mountains.
The lodge is a founder member of the 2,000 square kilometers Erongo Mountain Nature Conservancy, which brings together 30 private landowners in an effort to conserve this diverse area, known for excellent bird watching and hiking. There are also rare and endemic species of flora and fauna here, along with Bushman rock paintings.
There is a special wilderness area, encircled by the Erongo Mountains, where the desert, mountain, and bushveld ecosystems combine. Here, in a secluded valley and you will find twelve luxury tented chalets in a dramatic setting of granite boulders and breathtaking views. Raised wooden walkways and natural stone steps connect the chalets to the main area, where the restaurant, lounge, swimming pool and sundowner deck invite you to relax and fully unwind. The open-plan lounge and restaurant overlooks a floodlit waterhole, and is warmed by a central fireplace in the winter.
Nature provides the compelling reasons for visiting this unique environment. Many rare, endemic, and special species of animal, bird, and plant life thrive here, making this one of Namibia’s most diverse and Wildlife-rich areas.
Rooms
The Erongo Wild boasts 12 comfortable tented chalets. Built up on raised platforms, tucked amongst the boulders, offering seclusion and privacy, while still allowing Guests to enjoy the Erongo scenery. Glass sliding doors lead out onto a private, partially covered wooden deck where you’ll find director’s chairs and a rustic table.
The Erongo Wild tented chalets are spacious, with wooden floors. Insect-proof netting at the windows allow air to flow freely through the chalets however, canvas flaps can be zipped down to cover the netting if required. The beds are made up with crisp white linen, each on a wooden base with a wooden headboard, equipped with a reading lamp on the bedside table. Additionally, each tent has power points. The chalets are also equipped with an open hanging rack, a luggage rack, two wicker chairs, tea- and coffee-making facilities and a flask of drinking water. Tissues and a torch are also provided in the rooms.

Additionally, each tented chalet has its own en-suite bathroom built into the bare rock behind the chalet, with stone walls separating the bathroom from the outside while still allowing guests to enjoy the view of the Erongo scenery. This is ideal for a family travelling together. Similar in style to the other chalets, it is made up of a two-room unit and veranda that stretches in front of the chalet with stunning views of the surrounding hills. Facilities
The Lodge is fitted with raised wooden walkways and natural stone steps connecting all the chalets to The Erongo Wild’s main area; a stone and thatched building atop a separate hill. It incorporates a central fireplace, an open-plan dining area/lounge with a selection of books, and a bar in the shape of a dug-out canoe. Make yourself comfortable on one of the big leather sofas or matching chairs, or take in the mountain views from one of two outside decks, one with a fire pit, and both overlooking a small waterhole. There is a birdbath beside the dining area where rosy-faced lovebirds, red-eyed bulbuls, black-throated canaries and white-tailed shrikes are often seen, as well as rock dassies (hyrax) and the endemic dassie rats vying for drinking space.
Built into the rocks is a small swimming pool with a grassed area and sundowner deck, a good spot to relax in the afternoon after an energetic morning walk.
Activities
The Erongo Region is a geological wonderland. Its centre is formed by the Erongo Mountains a 130 million year old volcanic ruin with breath taking rock formations and landscapes. Over thousands of years magma, which cooled down subterraneous formed impressive natural scenarios dominated by massive granite boulders. Especially at dusk these landscapes offer beautiful photographic motives. The mountain range is also home to many interesting ancient rock paintings. The area is a birder’s paradise with many species found there.

Pangolin Trail
Because it is such a long trail, you are sure of the best scenery, land scaping, birding, wild life and nature scenes that The Erongo Wild can offer. Great activity for the extremist.

Gecko Trail
This trail encompasses half of the Eagle Rock Trail. The two split at the peak of the Eagle Mountain and the Gecko Trail continues on a different descent. It takes you through bushy shrubs and a river bed whilst enthralling you with different landscapes around every corner.

Eagle Rock Trail
This walk leads up into the rocky granite outcrops and over the whale backs, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape and the lodge below. Bird lovers love this walk with its abundant bird life. The trail is for guest that likes extreme experiences and takes you up to a height of 1300 m above sea level. Our guide that will accompany you grew up in this area and have some fascinating stories to share.

Baboon Trail
This trail takes you on an ancient volcanic granite mountain with a height of 1245m above sea level. You should wear proper hiking gear or trainers with maximum grip. Part of the trail is very steep and runs over point blank rocks. This is the playground for baboon and Dassie (Rock Hyrax). The Peregrine Falcon hunts here all round the year. You might encounter them on your hike.

Dassie Trail
This is a short hiking trail which you can do on our own. Good for a easy hike with no real challenges. Recommended for the nature lovers that want to experience the bush and foliage up close.

Sunset Drive
The Erongo Mountains form part of an ancient volcanic crater. The granite out crops is the result of ancient volcanic activities. The Erongo Wild is world renowned for the abundant wild live and spectacular scenery. On this drive you will encounter most of the 900 bird species – endemic and near endemic that you will find in Southern Africa. You might also find the smallest antelope in Southern Africa – The Damara Dik Dik, on your drive. The Mountain Zebra is also roaming free in the mountains.

Omaruru Day Excursion
Visit the arty town off Omaruru accompanied by a guide and enjoys the local flavour. Visit some wineries for tastings and hidden away Namibian craft exhibitions. See historical places in town with the first stop at the Franke Tower. We finish our trip with a visit to the only manufacturer of root art and carvings in Namibia. We will be back at Erongo Wild for a light lunch.

The Ju/’Hoansi San Living Museum
An immersive Ju/’Hoansi San (also known as Bushmen) Living Village Experience. This drive takes you to the heart of the Ju/’Hoansi tribe where you will get an insight into the ancient hunter-gatherer culture and traditional way of the Ju/’Hoansi San. The two programs on offer is namely; The bush walk in the Erongo, which visits the rock paintings and during which many plants and their uses are explained. The visitors can also go on a traditional hunt with the San. Secondly, you can experience the traditional life of the San within the setting of the village, whereby the interaction of the guests is highly valued. This means that visitors are welcome to help produce jewellery, medicine as well as bows and arrows. A highlight of every visit to a Living Museum is the display of ancient dances and rituals, but also funny games.
