Family owned and operated; Sungani Lodge is set in the natural beauty of Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park situated on the edge of an enormous lagoon. Sheltered by magnificent indigenous trees, the lodge blends seamlessly into the landscape.
Sungani Lodge is set in the natural beauty of Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. It is situated on the edge of an enormous lagoon. Sheltered by magnificent indigenous trees, the lodge blends seamlessly into the landscape. Carefully curated interiors showcase our love of raw materials, classic lines, and longevity. The entire lodge is built on elevated decking, affording the ability to wander around during the day.
The journey kicked off early in 2019. A father and son, along with a few local people, arrived near nightfall and had to spend the night in what were the old ruins of the site. The first few months had them sharing their accommodations with bats, snakes and various other creatures! Cooking on a fire, bread freshly baked in the ground, the story of Sungani had begun in this untouched corner of Africa.
By April the project was underway and many people from the local communities were employed again, or for the very first
time. Everything: from the architecture and interior design down to the last detail on each scatter cushion has truly been a family collaboration and much of what you see has been created on site.
With Zambia being regarded as one of the last true wildernesses, we are deeply grateful that we have the privilege to call Sungani our home. Every visitor helps to contribute towards the Sungani promise as we embark on this journey to become custodian and keeper – enabling us to give back now and in the years to come.
We are not one voice; we are a family that will continue to grow.
Activities include game drives, bush meals, day trips (on request), water excursions, photographic hides, walking safaris, and more.

The custom designed tents are set atop polished concrete floors to create a cool environment and offer approximately 1150 square feet indoors to relax in. The design is simple and understated, furnished with elegance and natural textures.
The interior focuses on comfort and warm colours, with a collection of unique pieces and details. The bathroom has a gorgeous slipper bath, fluffy towels, fresh soaps and salts.
The lodge is limited to seven luxury guest tents comprised of 4 King rooms and 3 Doubles (Queen beds). One double is configured to accommodate 2 adults and 2 children. You can also experience the luxury of the Directors’ Tent complete with WiFi, DSTV, Nespresso machine, outdoor sleeping and more.
Guest Tent King or Twin (7 ROOMS)

Directors Tent (1 ROOM)
The custom designed tents are set atop polished concrete floors to create a cool environment and offer approximately 1150 square feet indoors to relax in. The design is simple and understated, furnished with elegance and natural textures. The interior focuses on comfort and warm colours, with a collection of unique pieces and details. The bathroom has a gorgeous slipper bath, fluffy towels, fresh soaps and salts.

Family Tent (1 ROOM)
The custom designed tents are set atop polished concrete floors to create a cool environment and offer approximately 1150 square feet indoors to relax in. The design is simple and understated, furnished with elegance and natural textures. The interior focuses on comfort and warm colours, with a collection of unique pieces and details. The bathroom has a gorgeous slipper bath, fluffy towels, fresh soaps and salts.
Family tent – One twin is configured to accommodate 2 adults and 2 children. There is an adjoining wall that allows for separation but they would share the same outdoor and indoor facilities.
If this isn’t being used as a family tent then it would be a normal twin tent with the single beds as a large daybed.

Facilities
The main area of the lodge has a variety of living spaces and a pool where your time is uninterrupted, and the space is yours to do as you please. The considered library area provides a space to make use of the charging points. You can download your photos or curl up and read a book. Challenge someone to a game of chess at the antique chess table or just relax with your thoughts. There is a separate WC, curio shop and well-equipped and air-conditioned gym located about 100M from the main area. There is VSAT WIFI in the tents and main area. We are wheelchair friendly with one caveat being that doorways are 80cm wide.
Activities
WANDER IN THE WILD
The South Luangwa National Park is home to the ‘walking safari’ and enables up-close encounters. Imbibe the bush scents.
HIDEOUT
Spend a while up close and personal with the wildlife. Hides are set up near the lagoons and natural waterholes where there is an abundance of wildlife and birdlife. Patiently waiting for the perfect close-up photograph in a comfortable and intimate environment.
BOAT CRUISE
Boating on the wild Luangwa in the green season (January – March). You will set out on the boat in the morning or afternoon to experience the mighty Luangwa River in all its glory. The bird watching at this time of year is unbeatable.
DAY TRIP
This is your journey and if a vehicle is available for exclusive use, we can set up a day out for you. Our experienced guides can take you further afield to areas that are seldom explored. Enjoy a delicious, packed lunch and cold drinks in the heart of Africa.
GAME DRIVES
Enjoy a game drive in one of our luxury cruisers outfitted with individual seats and custom suspension. Let your guide take you on a morning or afternoon/night drive to explore the beautiful area. They will be able to respond to your interests and curiosity and generously share their knowledge of the wildlife, habitat, and landscape.
BUSH MEALS
An authentic and extraordinary experience. Our staff will create a beautiful menu and set everything up for you.
UNWIND
We know when you are on safari, there are many things worth getting out of bed for, but we want you to feel at home with us. Enjoy the comforts of your room – take a nice long bubble bath while you soak up the sights and sounds. Or come join us on the main deck and lie by the pool. Read your book, sip on something cold and enjoy the African sunshine.
