Information
Immersed in the African Mopani bush,Ongava Tented Camp is a natural extension of this wild, wonderful landscape. Large, comfortable walk-in tents with views across to a prolific waterhole are evocative of this classic African safari. All meals are enjoyed in the thatched dining area where a pool area affords an intimate view of the waterhole. Share a drink and the sunset in the close company of lion, eland, waterbuck, kudu and other fascinating animals as part of your ultimate safari experience.
Rooms
Eight large comfortable Meru-style tents all have en-suite facilities, open air showers and private verandas; the family unit sleeps four. The main area, built of stone, canvas and thatch, fronts onto a much-frequented waterhole; watching wildlife coming to drink from here or from the swimming pool is a favourite pastime.
Family Tent – 1 room
There is one family tent which comprises of 2 identical rooms at an angle to each other. Each Tent has its own bathroom and entrance, they are however linked by a short curved walkway.
Standard Tent(s) – 7 rooms
There are seven en-suite twin bedded tents. Classic Meru-style tents with double doors, covered veranda, a safe, ceiling fans, mosquito net, tea/coffee and 220V power
Facilities
Guests can visit the Ongava Research Centre’s Visitor Centre, enjoy wellness treatments, observe nature from the viewing hides, search the Ongava Research Centre Information Service, join guided nature walks, or simply lounge by the pool or relax on your private deck. These are some of the wonderful ways to enjoy and reflect on your journey of a lifetime.
EXAMPLE OF A TYPICAL DAY – Morning wake–up and activity times vary according to the seasons, activities on offer and wildlife sightings. ▪Early morning wake–up call▪Light breakfast before departing on the morning activity▪Return to camp for a meal and rest period.▪Meet for afternoon tea before departing on the activity. ▪Return to camp to freshen up or meet for drinks, followed by dinner and thereafter, perhaps a nightcap
Activities
Ongava Tented Camp – Game drives on Ongava Game Reserve
Guided afternoon/evening game drives take place on the 30 000-hectare private Ongava Game Reserve. The reserve is famed for its population of rhino as well as lion and other game such as antelope, including endemic black-faced impala, and zebra.
Ongava Tented Camp – Excursions into Etosha National Park
Full- or half-day guided morning game drives in the Etosha National Park, Namibia’s prime savannah wilderness area (with packed lunch on full day). See the massive saltpan as well as the perennial springs that provide the water required by the Park’s high-density big game population.
Ongava Tented Camp – Guided Nature Walks
Offered seasonally and subject to an available walking guide, nature walks through the area take in the abundant array of life, from unusual plants to arid-adapted animals, with a chance of approaching white rhino.
Ongava Information System and Visitor Centre
Guests can interface with science and research across the Ongava Game Reserve and part of this experience is an immersion into the world of natural history and science at the new Ongava Visitor Centre. With dozens of in-depth displays that feature information on the geology, animals, plants and ecological functioning of this fascinating region, guests are encouraged to meander through the self-guided exhibition area.
