Facilities

A contemporary safari camp in an iconic African landscape, Linkwasha and its panoramic views of the plains immerse you in the bush, as a steady stream of elephants, buffalos, wildebeest, zebras, sable antelopes, eland, and other game make their way past the ground-level rooms to the busy waterhole in front of the main area. On many evenings, you’ll be joined for dinner – perhaps just drinks – as elephants siphon their fill from the pool, then rumble off into the darkness, just as the stars come out.

Activities

Linkwasha sits on the edge of the renowned Ngamo Plains of Hwange, Zimbabwe’s largest national park. A staggering 5 657 square miles of diverse habitat, Kalahari sands seeping into teak woodlands and golden savannah grasslands, Hwange serves up some of the best game viewing on Earth, year-round but especially rewarding during the dry season. Linkwasha has access to the exclusive-use Makalolo and Linkwasha concessions, incorporating the Plains. With solar-pumped waterholes sustaining the wildlife population, dry-season game viewing around the concessions’ 15 water sources is mind-blowing.

Join the ever-changing wildlife parade on the Ngamo Plains, dotted with vleis and ilala palms. On a guided walk or game drive, find uncountable dust-kicking buffalos; some of the 40 000 local elephants; herd after antelope herd, with predators like lions, cheetahs, or African painted dogs in their wake; the more elusive pangolins, caracals, lesser bushbabies, and honey badgers; more than 400 bird species, including raptors, which fill the skies once the rains start. Sleep in a Star Bed high in a tree. Toast the day and each other to sensational blood-orange sunsets or dramatic summer thunderstorms, sound and light shows flashing across the plains.

Game Drives

With access to two of the best private concessions in Hwange, game drives at Linkwasha are particularly exciting, taking in herds as well as the carnivores that call the area home.

Guided Nature Walks

Hwange was proclaimed some 80 years ago and has served as a haven for one of the densest concentrations of game in Africa. There is no better way to experience this park than on foot with one of our experienced safari guides.

Sunken Hide At The Waterhole In Front Of Camp

Hide Out In The Wild – There is something incredibly thrilling about being hidden out of sight while animals like elephant go about their day, splashing in the waters and drinking, completely oblivious to your presence. The sunken hide in front of camp, is the ideal place to set up for an afternoon, a secret spot to watch the comings and goings of wildlife. Have your bird books, camera and binoculars ready …

Evening Drives

Night drives can yield many less-frequently-seen species, such as lesser bushbaby, spotted hyaena, pangolin, caracal, porcupine, springhare, scrub hare, Selous mongoose and even honey badger.

Village Visit

An authentic village experience takes place in a manner that is respectful to all parties. Usually around four hours and guided by one of the local villagers or a Wilderness guide, it often includes a guided tour of the school, meeting the headman or headwoman and enjoying cultural exchanges with the villagers.
