Information
The unique location of Hobatere, being the Getaway into the Western Etosha Park, allows for an exclusive wildlife experience but, at the same time, the aim is to increasing the sense of being a conservancy lodge which benefits the local community and conservation.
The lodge is situated in a concession area in the region of Damaraland, close to a number of key attractions including Twyfelfontein, Brandberg, Etosha National Park, Damaraland, Hoanib River and Opuwo. The lodge is situated in a concession area of 8 808 hectares, which is home to a rich diversity of game, including elephant and lion. With conservation in mind, the lodge is actively involved in promoting the peaceful co-existence of man and nature.
Rooms
Six cosy chalets (Rondawels) as well as six comfortable, adjoining rooms (bungalows) ensure a pleasant stay. The en-suite bathrooms are equipped with a shower, toilet and washbasin plus complementary toiletries. Your ‘second home in the wild’ is furnished with a desk and a coffee and tea station, and it sports a deck at the front. Hobatere Lodge is powered entirely by solar panels. Therefore the rooms have no sockets for electrical kettles. Instead, hot water flasks are provided for guests to enjoy tea or coffee with home-made biscuits in the comfort of their rooms.
Tree House
You and your partner can savour the magic of a romantic night immersed in the African bush… well, actually ensconced in a comfortable cabin perched in an indigenous tree. This is a unique opportunity to rediscover nature and the earthy smell of the savannah. Watch the sunset and the nocturnal visitors at the waterhole from the privacy of your deck while taking in the tranquillity, silence and beauty of the surroundings.
You will be taken to the Tree House at dusk, given a cooler box stocked with your choice of drinks, sundowner snacks and a cold dinner platter, and then you will be left alone to soak up the evening sounds of the African bush.

Facilities
The main area and surrounding chalets are covered with thatched roofs, cooling the air with the fragrant scents of the African savannah.
Staff recruited from the local community provides a personalized service and warm Namibian hospitality. Accommodation is in a variety of chalets, all of them with easy access to the main waterhole nearby, where all the wildlife action prevails – particularly early in the morning and late afternoon.
For relaxing and soaking up the sun there is a secluded swimming pool with loungers next to the main area. A spacious in-door and out-door restaurant is complemented by a lounge, bar area and an outside veranda, where an open fire is lit on chilly nights.Namibian craft items are available in a small shop near the reception.
Activities
Etosha Game Drive Tired of driving yourself but you still don’t want to miss out on world-renowned Etosha National Park? Book our Etosha Game Drive and let someone else chauffeur you in an open safari vehicle! Breakfast is served at the lodge before departing for the park accompanied by a knowledgeable guide. Cozy ponchos are provided on chilly mornings. Etosha National Park is about 17 km from the Lodge. You will enjoy a leisurely drive through our concession area with the possibility of wildlife sightings. In Etosha your guide will stop at iconic waterholes for coffee and a light picnic lunch before slowly heading back to the Lodge.Departure varies according to sunrise and when Etosha’s gates open. Hobatere Morning Game Drive Embark on an early morning game drive to listen to the chirping sounds of the birds and breathe in the scent of the bush. Your guide will stop along the way at a suitable spot for you to enjoy a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate with homemade rusks. A full breakfast will be waiting for you at the lodge on your return. Departure is at 06h00 in summer and at 07h00 in winter. Hobatere Afternoon Game Drive End your day with an unforgettable Sundowner drive, the best way to enjoy the African sunset in the bush. Sit back and relax while you watch wild–life and birds from an open game viewer vehicle. This is also one of the best times of the day for photography enthusiasts. With a little luck you may even spot our resident pride of lions! Drinks and delicious bites will be served before the leisurely drive back to the lodge in time for dinner. Departure is at 17h00 in summer and at 16h00 in winter. Boma Bush Dinner A boma is a southern African term for an enclosure – usually for wild animals. Our boma dinner is for guests who want to connect to the soul of the bush and relish the sights and sounds of an African night. We depart before sunset so that you can indulge in the best part of an African evening: sundowner drinks around a fire. Our knowledgeable guides will keep you company while our chef prepares a typical African bush dinner under the stars. After dinner a glass of sherry or port – or on chilly nights a lovely cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate – will be served before heading back to the lodge in the dark. This is when wildlife of the African bush truly surprises even the most experienced guest or guide. Perhaps a cheetah or two, a genet slinking around or the call of a Scops Owl?
Night Drive Don’t miss out on our famous night drives. They are the perfect opportunity to see shy nocturnal animals such as bat-eared foxes, honey badgers, genets, African wildcats, spring hares, owls, nightjars and even the elusive aardvark.You will depart after dinner at 20h00 together with an experienced guide.
