Embraced by the Namib Desert and sitting on the knee of the Atlantic Ocean is the quaint town of Lüderitz. Not only is the town picturesque and unique but so also our accommodation.

Lüdertiz is situated on the west coast of Namibia, approximately 160 km north of the Orange River Mouth. It is separated from the hinterland by the Namib Desert, a name given it by the Hottentots and meaning a waterless land. There is not doubt that this name is appropriates, as there can be a few other regions on earth that present a more scorched, desolate, or lonely face to the sun.
It has taken 80 million years for the Namib to reach its present state, but it would take only a few degrees change in temperature of the Benguela Current, which flows up the west coast of Africa, to bring rain and this fertility to this arid stretch of land.
In complete contrast to this pitiless desert is the Atlantic Ocean, teaming with life of all forms. The strong currents sweep up the coast carrying sand that has been washed down the great rivers, and depositing it on the coast, creating the sand dunes for which the Namib is famous.
These in turn are sculptured and moved by the wind, that gust relentlessly for a large part of the year. Such mountains of sand form a backdrop to any views from Lüderitz, as they take on differing moods in the changing lights, from a soft dawn through the shimmering haze of midday to orange quiescence as the sum sets over the sea.
Historic sites to explore include the Lüderitz Museum, Bogenfels Rock Arch, Evangelical Lutheran Church, Goerke House, Deutsche Afrika Bank Building, Glück Auf Building, Kreplinhaus, Krabbenhöft & Lampe Building, Lüderitz Railway Station, and the ‘ghost towns’ of Kolmanskop.
