Information

Resting on the top of the low foothills in the far north west of Hwange National Park, is Deka Camp. Probably the remotest camp in Hwange, this area offers guests an opportunity to walk and game drive some of the wildest areas in Southern Africa.

The camp is situated in our own private concession in Hwange National Park so allows us the opportunity to do night drives as well.

Deka Camp is situated in the far north west of Hwange National park, and is a 40 minute game drive from Robins airstrip. The camp is sited on a low hill overlooking the Deka Seeps which are the head waters of the  Deka river which flows east to the Zambezi.

Rooms

The small camp consists of eight units, made of thatch, local rock and canvas. Ideal for taking the whole camp  for groups, this unique place will captivate you. Big sky country is what sums up this wild area. The camp overlooks the Deka floodplains and seeps which are the head waters of the Deka river.

Luxury Suite – 8 Rooms

The style of the camp is local rock and canvas walls with thatch roofs. The units are small but offer every comfort one could need. Hot and cold running water, flush toilet, comfortable beds with first class linen and views of forever. The camp is designed to blend with the environment and the style compliments this.

Facilities

Thatch dining and social area

The oversized tented deck area forms the social hub of our camps. You can swap stories at the bar, relax in the lounge or gather around the large fire pits to swap stories, fuelling the feeling of being on an authentic African safari in the bush.

Plunge pool

Africa is a sun-drenched country where summer temperatures often reach the high thirties and low forty-degrees Celsius. After a morning safari, counting the passing clouds while floating in a pool or resting on a sun bed is nothing short of sublime.

Eco-friendly kitchen and food storage

To keep our eco-footprint light, we use energy-efficient fridges in our kitchens, which we turn off at night. We also use coal cold rooms and cellars to store heat-sensitive items.

Solar energy

We harvest the sun’s energy via solar panels, that store electricity in a battery bank. Our hot water supply is generated by a state of the art Thermodynamic Solar Energy system, which ensures that the camps have hot water, no matter the weather.

Airstrip access

The camp is only a short game drive away from the nearest airstrip, providing game viewing opportunities en route to and from the camp.

Dedicated Wi-Fi zone

A holiday in Africa is the perfect place in which to disconnect from the ‘net and connect with friends and nature. We deliberately don’t have Wi-Fi access throughout the camp, but we do have designated Wi-Fi areas if you do need access to the web.

Activities

Guide dependent walking safaris

Walking safaris are also conducted generally in the morning with armed guides. The walks are leisurely and time is taken to observe the smaller things in the bush that one normally misses when driving. Walking is weather dependent, or dependent on the condition of the terrain.

Game Drives

Game drives are conducted in the mornings and afternoon/evenings at camp. They usually last about three hours each and are conducted around the camp. The wildlife in the area is prolific. Night drives are conducted in the early evening offering one a chance to see the smaller more nocturnal animals with spotlights.
