Information
Xakanaxa Camp is one of the pioneer safari camps in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. The prime location of Camp Xakanaxa (pronounced Ka-ka-na-ka) on the banks of the Khwai River on the Xakanaxa Lagoon, in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, makes it one of the very few safari camps that offers guests an authentic, year-round Okavango Delta land and water safari experience. To the north and west of the camp are the permanent lagoons and waterways of the Okavango Delta and to the south and east are dry woodlands.
Game viewing in Moremi is good all year round. In the dry season (April to October) the game is usually found mostly around permanent water sources. From September to November migrant birds such as storks and herons return to the area and stay for a good few months. As the rains arrive (November to April) dramatic thunderstorms, amazing sunsets and beautiful flowers add to the highlights, while newborn animals attract the predators.
It has very good game including leopards, lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo’s, and exceptional bird-life including breeding colonies of birds on tree-covered islands. Wild dogs are found here, and there are prolific numbers of antelopes.
The Moremi Game Reserve, situated in the eastern Okavango Delta, is bordered by the Chobe National Park. The Moremi Game Reserve covers almost one third of the Okavango Delta.

The elegant lounge and dining rooms, built of local timber, reed and thatch, feature a small library, expansive sundeck, plunge pool and sala with day bed. The fire-deck extends over the Khwai River and creates an enchanting environment in which to relax after dinner.
Activities
The ancient riverine forests, open savanna, serpentine channels as well as seasonal floodplains which surround the camp, make for a varied habitat of exceptional fauna and flora. The camp is one of few offering a year-round land and water game viewing experience in open game drive vehicles and motorised boats. The diverse habitat ensures prolific sightings of elephant, buffalo, wild dog, hyena, giraffe, hippo, wildebeest, kudu, lechwe, lion, leopard and cheetah, amongst others. Birding is spectacular especially in the spring and summer months when the migrants are breeding.
