Positioned in the Savute area of Chobe National Park, &Beyond Savute Under Canvas is a mobile tented camp with comfortable en suite tents and personalized service, offering exceptional game viewing opportunities.
A remote and wild corner of the Chobe National Park, Savute is an area of open savanna grassland that stretches from the park’s northern boundary to the Linyati Swamps. Recently running again after many years, the Savute channel has brought as both prey and predators move back into the area in large numbers. Sizable numbers of elephant bulls are invariably present at Savute and close encounters with these great pachyderms are commonplace. In the wet season, large herds of zebra and tsessebe feed on the Savute plains.
It is not uncommon to catch sight of leopard, cheetah and African wild dog, and Savute also supports the greatest concentration of the king of all beasts – the lion. Eland, kudu, roan, sable, waterbuck, wildebeest, impala and many other antelope may be encountered.
As per National Park vehicle restrictions, it is not possible for guests to self-drive into our Savute Under Canvas camps. There are scheduled flights to Kasane airport, where a guide will collect guests and transfer them to camp (1 hour with game viewing en route).Camps move to a different site every five or six days. This is a true African experience, with campsites in remote areas where guests can expect to see few other people or vehicles.
Each of the six en suite mobile tents, accommodating a maximum of 12 guests per camp, has a double bed, en suite bathroom, separate toilet and hot bucket shower. Night time noises filter through canvas walls as guests enjoy the opportunity to drink in the bush sounds.
The sweet fragrance of morning dew on bush vegetation welcomes each new day at Savute Under Canvas. Steaming hot water in each tent’s bucket shower refreshes and revitalizes for the day ahead, while crisp linens and a spacious double bed welcome weary bodies after a long day filled with discovery. Spacious guest areas create cool spaces to relax in the heat of the day or share a drink with friends in the evening hours. Crystal and silver sparkling in the lamplight add a touch of glamour to camping as dishes full of flavour find their way to dining tables.
Game viewing in Savute is remote and wild. Savute is a famous battleground for lions and spotted hyena, and with grazing now plentiful, guests can now also enjoy frequent sightings of zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, giraffe, tsessebe and kudu. andBeyond’s professionally trained guides will ask you about your favourite wildlife and will do their best to ensure that your preferences are met, whether it is tracking a particular species or spending more time enjoying each sighting and getting to know the habits of the animals. They will also tell you about the vegetation of the region and will explain the behavior of the animals that you come across. In some cases, the guides will be able to identify individual animals and let you know about their history and habits.
Savute Under Canvas provides delicious Pan-African meals and traditional safari dinners in the shady dining tent, or under the stars.
